The messenger of Christ’s birth. Marcel Carbonel puts three types of angels on show in his crib:
The Standing Angel - the same size as the other characters - he announces the birth of Jesus. He is the symbol of God’s presence close to the Holly Child.
The Herald Angel (Boufareu, in Provençal ‘he who blows’) holds a trumpet in his hands and guides the people to the sacred stable.
The Angel’s Head and the Two Cherubin watch over the newborn child’s slumber; they are meant to be hung up, amongst the leaves decorating the crib.
