hurdy-gurdy man & woman
Street musician. One of the oldest crib santons, first appearing about 1820. He holds his hurdy-gurdy between his hands and gets ready to play in honour of the birth of the Infant Jesus. The ‘vielle’ from the old Provençal ‘violo’ is a stringed keyboard instrument which is found in the folklore of many regions of France. His costume is very neat and he has a widebrimmed black hat on his head. There is also a ‘hurdy gurdy woman’.
