fishmonger wife
A woman who sells fish. One of the oldest and most traditional characters of both provençal life and the crib. Still, nowadays, a highly picturesque figure in Provence. A woman of imposing stature, loud-mouthed but decent. A large, garish headscad thrown over her shoulders and crossed over her bosom, white cotton headdress on her head, she proudly carries her two baskets of fish. A copper steelyard is fastened to her belt.
