The earliest Provençal musician. He sets the young folk dancing at Saint Day feast and is present at all the important village events*. He beats upon the tambourine hanging under his arm with ‘massette’ which he holds in one hand. With the other he plays the ‘galoubet’ a kind of flute with three holes.
He has a wide-brimmed grey hat on his head and wears a black jacket and trousers belted with a ‘taïolo’ - a broad band of woollen cloth. The cellar of his white shirt is held by a cravate with a big bow.
